Image Recognition & Perceptual Completion of Giovanni Strazza's The Veiled Virgin

As image recognition technology continues to advance in areas like surveillance and geospatial sciences, I find it fascinating to shift my focus to the human-computer interface and the underlying human ontology. When observing Strazza's sculpture, the human brain instinctively completes and identifies the subject, even though the veil and facial structure are blended into a single mass.

Strazza also employs two distinct, subtle textures for the veil and face that respond to light from different angles, similar to viewsheds. I select specific features based on chosen sculptural elements that align with my vision. Much like the sculpture's contrasting textures, I apply two visual treatments between the veil and face to illustrate how these carefully crafted details guide the human brain in recognizing the two distinct features.
